Kathy has had guns and horses around all her life. She started shooting guns at the age of two, and riding horses on her own at age three (Her father has has over 30 years of Law Enforcement Training and found a safe way for her to shoot a .22 pistol, and this is one of those "Don't Do This at Home"). When Kathy was six, she raced barrels and poles in the local 4-H Playdays before competing in the SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) Cowboy Action Matches at age seven. At age eight, Kathy was ranching and working cattle in rough mountainous terrain. Her family being avid hunters, Kathy started hunting mule deer in 2007, and killed her first buck with a bow in January of 2008; he was a nice 8-pointer. Kathy was introduced to mounted shooting by Alan Eggleston of the Double E Ranch, who was doing a clinic in her hometown, and was automatically hooked. She was ten, and not long afterwards, Kathy started training her own horses, and for local family and friends.
In school, Kathy was active in Volleyball, Basketball and Track, but her interests took a dramatic shift as she reached her Freshmen year in High School. She wanted to improve her shooting and riding skills, and aim for the top in mounted shooting. She dedicated her time to working and training horses, and it has paid off! She started winnning State, Regional, National and World Championship titles, and even won a brand new F-150 pick-up truck at the age of 15!
Kathy was also an active FFA (Future Farmers of America) member throughout High School, but wasn't able to compete in all of the events that the organization offered. She still supported her school's FFA club, and was the Highest FFA Fundraiser Seller in her Sophomore and Junior year. Kathy is an honors student, and started taking college courses during her Sophomore year. She also took up Welding, and loved it! Kathy ended up graduating High School with 27 college credit hours.
In 2011, Kathy is proud to endorse her newest sponsors: Ranch Royalty Clothing Company, Mayatex Wool Saddle Blankets, and the Double E Ranch! A few months before Kathy graduated High School, she was hired by Alan and Debbie Eggleston of the Double E Ranch (www.doubleeranch.com) in Gila, New Mexico, to help them train mounted shooting horses to prepare for the 2012 season. The Double E Ranch have recently provided her a back-up horse, Lucky Four Buck. Lucky is a 10 year old AQHA mare that has helped Kathy move up to a Ladies Level Five! So be sure to watch for them in the 2012 mounted shooting season!
As for what's next? Well, Kathy knows what she wants, and looks forward to what 2012 has in store for her. She will one day achieve her dream goal of becoming a successful business woman in and out of the arena. Now at age 18, Kathy is a Sophomore at Eastern New Mexico University working on earning her degree in Business Administration and Graphic Design.
